The CL Lab, led by Hai Hu (Assistant Professor, Department of Language Science and Technology, with joint appointment in the Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University), is recruiting PhD students and research assistants. We welcome applicants interested in language models, computational linguistics, cognitive modeling, and Chinese NLP. See the homepage for our research directions.
The lab is well funded and maintains long-term collaborations with institutions including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Normal University, and Indiana University. Many CL Lab members have gone on to fully funded PhD programs, e.g., Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University, Computational Linguistics at UC San Diego, Psychology at Princeton University, and Computer Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before a formal admission decision, PhD applicants will typically work with us on a collaborative project for 1–3 months, so that both sides can get to know each other and make an informed choice; the topic can build on the lab’s existing directions or be proposed by the applicant. For research assistants, working arrangements (on-site or remote, payment, authorship, etc.) are negotiable.
